The Catfish Effect in Credit Ratings

The People’s Bank of China took a big step forward opening the domestic bond market this week, allowing foreign credit rating agencies to operate independently of joint ventures. The move is expected to improve the ratings environment for Chinese corporate bonds and to allow traders to price risks more effectively, while minimizing one of the key concerns of foreign participants in China’s fixed income markets.
