China’s northeastern provinces continue to produce admittedly falsified economic data concerning industrial output, GDP, investment, and fiscal revenue. The recent scandals related to data reporting in Liaoning, Jilin, and Inner Mongolia question this year’s conventional interpretations of China’s national-level data, and clearly impugn the reliability of output data series.
