Property Market Chartbook, June 2022

China’s property market is finally showing signs of life after COVID restrictions have eased in recent weeks. Sales are improving in major cities, particularly Shanghai and Beijing, but remain depressed in smaller cities that drive overall construction growth. Land sales and new construction activity are still under pressure. Local governments have introduced new housing coupon programs, which may boost sentiment in the market temporarily, but expansion will be limited by localities’ fiscal resources.
