April 2021 China Macro Data Recap

April economic data pointed to a slowdown in China’s cyclical momentum and new investment, primarily because of weakening credit growth. Steel output remained strong in spite of reports on production limits, as Beijing steps up efforts to control speculation in commodities markets. China’s rapid export growth may extend given the resurgence of COVID-19 in India and Southeast Asia.
