April 2019 Macro Data Recap

China’s economic data slowed virtually across the board in April. Some of this weakness was expected as supportive base effects from March faded. For the full year, however, most data series for the first four months have still improved from 2018, indicating China’s cyclical rebound continues. However, this recovery will remain shallow as credit remains well below levels in previous years, with new trade tensions reinforcing the need for continued policy easing.
