April 2017 Macro Data Recap

China’s April macroeconomic data provided new evidence that the PBOC’s monetary tightening steps are slowing cyclical momentum in heavy industrial activity. Property sector indicators were surprisingly resilient, though, and formal loan growth defied a seasonal slowdown, even as other non-loan forms of credit and overall bank asset growth are under pressure.
